Donaldson was chairman of the SEC from 2003 to 2005. Previously, he founded and served as chairman and CEO of the investment banking firm Donaldson, Lufkin & Jenrett. He also served as chairman and CEO of the New York Stock Exchange, according to his SEC biography; Chairman, president and CEO of Aetna; and chairman and CEO of Donaldson Enterprises Inc. He served in four presidential adminsitrations before the Bush administration, including serving as undersecretary of State to then-Secretary of State Henry Kissinger, and counsel and special adviser to Vice President Nelson Rockefeller during the Ford administration.
